THE JOAN D. FIRESTONE AWARD CELEBRATION Join En Garde Arts for the Fourth Annual Joan D. Firestone Award Ceremony, celebrating the legacy of one of New York City’s great cultural advocates. The Joan D. Firestone Award, launched in 2021, annually honors one of the country’s most innovative artists with an unrestricted $18,000 grant to ignite the creation of a new project. The 2024 recipient, visionary director Taibi Magar (OBIE, Is God Is), has been developing Tokitae, a collaboration with the Lummi Nation that tells the story of a captured orca and the fight for her return to the Salish Sea. This special evening will feature a work-in-progress presentation of the piece, brought to life with puppetry by Amanda Villalobos and original music. We are also proud to announce the 2025 award recipient: Modesto Flako Jimenez, a groundbreaking New York artist and community organizer whose site-specific, activist-driven work reflects the core values En Garde Arts has championed since its founding. 📅 Wednesday, October 22 at 7PM 📍 St. Michaels Church
