Central Java is known through out the world for their classical gamelan and dance traditions.

Ten of Central Java’s most distinguished dancers have been given a grant from the Institute Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, Indonesia to collaborate with the Cal Arts Javanese Gamelan. Twenty musicians under the direction
of Djoko Waluyo and Nyoman Wenten will play the beautiful bronze Cal Arts gamelan instruments. The magnificent dancers of ISI Yogyakarta will present a wide-ranging and diverse program that includes: classic ensemble repertoire; a classical dance drama excerpt; and the American premiere of a new choreographic work.
CUP of JAVA will be the centerpiece of this bi-national exchange project that is also touring to the East West Center, Univeristy of Hawaii.
