Definition eludes India’s most genre bending and adventurous dance theatre collective. Eight virtuosic dancers under the visionary direction of Aparna Sindhoor, S.M. Raju and Anil Natyaveda create a unique movement language inspired by South Indian classical dance (bharata natyam), martial arts (kalari payattu) and yoga with gravity defying aerial dance, song and dialogue. A Story and A Song is a tale of women, nature and love based on Kannada folklore, Native American tales, along with narratives of contemporary women. The result is a stunning theatrical experience. With music created by carnatic and jazz musician, Prasanna.

''Mamak Khadem is… one of the wonders of world trance music''
— Los Angeles Times

Mamak Khadem is the consummate artistic pioneer, dedicating her performing career to exploring the mystical connections between voice and Sufi poetry. She captivates audiences by blending her roots in the ancient poetry and music of the Persian masters with her own original sounds. By nature, she is a nomad, one who thrives in open spaces. By occupation, she is a bridge, one that connects geography to lore. In music, she is open to cultural influences, but she has chosen the classical Persian style as her base. Mamak weaves a canopy, both simple and rich, for a stunningly emotional and spiritual musical experience.

Pre-performance Conversation: Yatrika Shah-Rais
