Join us Thursday, June 20th at 6 pm at Abrons Arts Center’s Playhouse Theater for an exciting panel focused on the need for strong policy inclusion and infrastructure concerning NYC’s State of solid waste management within New York City’s development of Green New Deal policy.

Hosted by the Manhattan Solid Waste Advisory Board (MSWAB), this panel’s theme is “Is NYC Ready for the New Green Deal? (through the Lens of Solid Waste Management).” The event seeks to enlighten attendees on the opportunity to create new jobs within both the public and private sectors and highlight the gap in infrastructure needed in order to help NYC meet its growing capacity in managing recyclable commodities, organics and other aspects of the solid waste stream.

The halt on China’s imports of wastepaper and plastics has been perceived to be an adverse disruption to U.S. recycling programs. Alternatively, it has also spurred investment in American plants that process recyclables. This creates a ripe opportunity for NYC to improve its solid waste management infrastructure and economic development. As all of us (policy makers, advocates, investors, developers, and innovators, to name a few) are striving to integrate sustainability into municipal action, MSWAB intends for this event to start the conversations needed to catalyze it.

MSWAB’s programming is designed to address solutions at the residential, commercial, and city scale for city all stakeholders that seek ways to forge an inclusive, environmentally just and sustainable path forward for constituents and businesses in NYC.

Kate Mikuliak, MSWAB Member and Former MSWAB Legislative Committee Chair
