Sofia Rei presents “A Centennial tribute to Violeta Parra” for this special performance. Sofia (on vocals and charango) will be joined by Leo Genovese on the piano.

The award winning Argentine vocalist, songwriter and producer has been named one of the 10 most important female musicians performing today. All About Jazz calls her “one of the most versatile and in-demand singers on the New York music scene”. Sofia is known for her passionate and inventive style, which explores connections between the various traditions of South American folklore, jazz, flamenco, contemporary music and electronic sounds.

She continues to set herself apart with a bold new vision in the global music scene. Her spellbinding album, De Tierra y Oro (“of earth and gold”) received two independent Music Awards in the World Beat category for Best Album and Best Song (2013).

Her music has taken her around the world and earned her critical acclaim, from her work as a leader to her collaborations with renowned artists such as John Zorn, Maria Schneider, Frank London, and Geoffrey Keezer (with whom she earned a Grammy Nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album in 2009). She is also a faculty member of Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory.
