SUGGESTED DONATION DETAILS
In order for this project to reach its full budget, we are asking our audience to make a donation upon registration by selecting one of several registration tiers. Once each of the registration tiers reaches capacity, our remaining project budget will be fulfilled. Once a registration tier has been fulfilled // reached capacity, it will deactivate and the other registration tiers should be selected. All registration tiers are general admission. If you have questions or would like to bulk register for a group // coordinate a larger donation, you can reach out to christine@thewilburygroup.org.
We are using a reparations model for this production's registration + donations. This means, we invite you to check in with your intersectional privilege as you select your registration tier + donation amount. For example, if you're white, we encourage you to select one of the more expensive tiers, so that the less expensive tiers remain available for our BIPOC audience. All are welcome to select the more expensive tiers and ALL are welcome to attend this event.
The Historical Fantasy of Esek Hopkins is an activist dance opera, that reimagines the narrative of Esek Hopkins; the future of our community; the future of public space; the future we will leave behind to our children's children. As we cleanse, heal, and practice liberation with our community, this project is a protest-demonstration against the system that tells us that Esek Hopkins’ former home is worth preserving. We are choreographing for justice.
Created by Haus of Glitter and presented in collaboration with The Wilbury Theatre Group, The Historical Fantasy of Esek Hopkins shares the stories, cultures and choreography of the Haus of Glitter’s Black, Indigenous, Latinx and Laotian ancestors. A fabulation created to imagine the missing stories from the legacy of Esek Hopkins’ disastrous slaving voyage on "sally", this activist dance opera imagines what would life would be like today if colonization or slavery never happened by telling the story of a single Black person lost on the voyage, imagining her story, family, emotions, and legacy.
