(16/17) Betrayal
by Harold Pinter
Raven Theatre
6157 N. Clark Chicago, IL 60660
West Stage
Directed by Lauren Shouse
In Pinter’s modern classic, Emma - the wife of London publisher Robert, has a nine-year affair with her husband’s best friend Jerry, a successful and married literary agent. What happens when we break the rules requiring fidelity to one’s spouse and loyalty to our friends? Betrayal is a thoughtful and rich play about the difficulty in maintaining honesty with those closest to us.
Reviewing the 2013 Broadway revival starring Daniel Craig directed by Mike Nichols, Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune wrote “Betrayal is Pinter’s most personal and intimate drama…remarkably timeless.” Pinter’s four-character drama about secrets and deeply personal emotions will be staged in unusually intimate fashion in our West Stage.
