The Story Theatre's mission is to pose questions, rather than provide answers. We develop and produce new work that is whimsical, melancholic, mythic in vision, and intimate in scale. We are run by a governing artistic ensemble, who ensures our work is actively dismantling racism and inequity, while cultivating community through activism and catharsis.

In the spirit of The Understudy’s commitment to collaboration, community, and discovery, Freshly Brewed is our monthly new play reading series. Featuring the work of emerging Chicago area playwrights and directors. Each artist contributing– playwrights, directors, and actors– receives a stipend for their work.
