NEW YORK PREMIERE | MARCH 19 – 21

This brief, powerful music-drama documents the all-to-familiar story of an African-American parent whose “beautiful brown boy” approaches driving age as, what should be a celebration of
independence and maturity is fraught with the anxiety of driving while black.

TEARS AT THE HAPPY HOUR
BY WILLIAM BOLCOM
U. S. PREMIERE | MARCH 24

Love. Loss. Longing. Lust. These are the themes running through the songs of Pulitzer and Grammy award-winning composer William Bolcom, whose music blurs the lines between cabaret, classical, music theatre and even country, in settings of Auden, e.e. Cummings, Shakespeare and long-time collaborator Arnold Weinstein.

This marks the New York debut of the internationally acclaimed soprano Rayanne Dupuis, who with pianist Guy Livingston perform Bolcom’s “Poèmes libres de droits,” a cycle, on poems by Guillaume Apollinaire, and a wistful, surrealist tip of the hat to Bolcom’s formative years in Paris, written expressly for Dupuis and Livingston.
