Masters and Servants: The Study of Status in Shakespeare's Plays. Olivia & Malvolio; Prospero & Caliban; Desdemona & Emilia.
At every turn in Shakespeare's plays are dynamic relationships between masters and their servants. Students will be assigned short scenes from the "Master and Servant" pairing of their choice. In addition to the study of scansion and text analysis, students will learn techniques for understanding and playing status.

PITCH PERFECT: BRINGING YOUR INDIVIDUAL VOICE TO AUDITIONS AND ROLES. Helps students discover their individual vocal strengths in a supportive, positive, and honest rehearsal space. Participants will identify personal strengths and areas for improvement, assess potential roles for which to audition, and develop confidence in selections from their audition repertoire best suited to their individual voices.

AUDITIONING FOR TV AND FILM: THE THOUGHT METHOD. While many elements of the casting process are beyond the actor’s control, the audition is an important exception. Students will learn how to prepare for auditions with the Thought Method, a process used by actors to break down a character’s thoughts from moment to moment. The requirements of different genres will also be explored, including the different adjustments to be made when auditioning for a three-camera TV sitcom versus a feature film.

SUZUKI AND VIEWPOINTS. Monday, 7/28-Friday, 8/1. Explores two of the most influential approaches to actor training. Tadashi Suzuki’s method uses exercises inspired by Greek theatre and martial arts; Viewpoints, developed by director Anne Bogart and playwright-director Tina Landau, is an improvisation-based technique for examining a play through movement and gesture.

MEISNER ACTING TECHNIQUE. Monday, 7/28-Friday, 8/1. An introduction to this essential element in an actor’s education. The goal of Meisner technique is to live truthfully under given imaginary circumstances. This class will help students bring the spontaneity of improvisation to work with text.

RAISING THE BAR: EXPLORING THE ACTOR'S PROCESS. 12:00-6:30pm. A two-week immersion in advanced theatre training for students committed to deepening their acting skills and knowledge of craft. By studying scenes from outstanding plays through challenging vocal, movement, and character work, students experience the actor’s process in depth. While the focus is on ensemble training, students are given specific individual attention and feedback.
