En Garde Arts
En Garde Arts supports artists working at the intersection of theatre and social change. Our artists are risk takers and visionaries who are committed to the discovery of new forms of storytelling. Oftentimes they are not supported by mainstream institutions, but En Garde Arts is there for them, and we hope you’ll be there for us by making a contribution.

Art is Not Expendable
On Friday, May 2, we learned that our anticipated $40,000 NEA grant to support our 2025 Uncommon Voices artist commissioning program has been revoked.
To say we’re disappointed is an understatement. En Garde Arts is an organization that will survive. But our artists are at risk. As federal arts funding is slashed, the first to suffer are the bold, untested, and extraordinary new voices.
That’s why we’re taking action. And we need your help.
En Garde Arts is launching a campaign to say clearly, loudly, and on no uncertain terms: Art is Not Expendable. Through the #ArtIsNotExpendable campaign, we’re committing 50% of all donations to commission artists creating new, site-specific works around the intersection of theatre and social change. This is about safeguarding the next generation of theater – and the future we want to live in.
And we’re not in this fight alone. The Dr. David M. Milch Foundation has stepped up to offer a $50,000 match. That means every dollar you spend to support En Garde’s artists will go twice as far.
So we’re asking you, our community, to join us in sending this important message to this administration:
Art is not expendable.
They will not keep us quiet.
Our artists are ready.
Our stages are everywhere.
And we’re just getting started.
