Houses on the Moon Theater Company is thrilled to announce our next production, Camilo Almonacid’s HOTEL HAPPY! This hilarious and poignant play will premiere Off-Broadway in February 2024 at Manhattan’s 122 Community Center. We can’t wait to share it with you! A play about sexual tourism in Colombia and that industry's close connection to the country's civil war, HOTEL HAPPY explores American-Colombian relationships through a farcical lens, using the power of absurdity to reflect how the decimating effects of war displace us all. HOTEL HAPPY is Houses on the Moon’s most ambitious production to date, featuring a life-size donkey puppet and a phenomenal artistic team including director Estefanía Fadul (Repertorio Español’s Eva Luna) and puppet designer Matt Acheson (Broadway’s War Horse). Your contributions will help us bring HOTEL HAPPY to life on stage! We invite you to BUILD WITH US by supporting the following initiatives: Ticket Subsidy Program for HOTEL HAPPY: Houses on the Moon provides one third of all tickets for free or at highly subsidized rates to community partners and individuals who are often excluded from traditional Off-Broadway outreach efforts, many of whom rarely experience theater due to financial or geographic barriers. In addition to offering subsidized tickets for these partners and their constituents, our HOTEL HAPPY audience engagement strategy will focus on individuals with lived experience of the play’s themes, including sex workers, individuals displaced by conflict, and members of the Colombian diaspora. With your help, we aim to raise $20,000 for the HOTEL HAPPY Ticket Subsidy Fund, ensuring that the production is accessible and affordable for all. Puppetry Workshop: HOTEL HAPPY is Houses on the Moon’s most ambitious project yet, featuring not only seven cast members but an eighth character: a donkey, represented by a life-size puppet designed and built by War Horse’s Matt Acheson. To bring the donkey to life, all performers will take turns operating the puppet throughout the play. This unique production element will require extra rehearsal time with our cast, including a week-long puppetry training workshop. By helping us raise $15,000 for puppetry training, your donations will support this rare and exciting theatrical experience! We invite you to BUILD WITH US this Spring by making a tax-deductible gift to support our production of HOTEL HAPPY and help Houses on the Moon continue to share bold and powerful untold stories.
