Mark Plesent Commission Fund
Over the past five years, the Mark Plesent Commission Fund has made a one-of-a-kind impact within the American Theater. By providing first-time writing commissions to working-class artists, placing them with mentors, holding 29-hour development readings with professional actors, directors, stage managers, and final readings open to the public, Mark Plesent Commission Fund has created a bridge to the wider theater community for exceptional working playwrights. The Mark Plesent Commission Fund has become the program that truly exemplifies the mission of Working Theater and we are deeply proud of all the work that has been created. Thank you for your support.

Working Theater is a not-for-profit 501c3 charitable organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law.

If your company, or the company that employs your spouse, offers a matching gift program, you could double your donation. Working Theater's federal tax ID number is 13-1394732.

Please email cade@theworkingtheater.org if you have any questions about your donation.

Brick by Brick
Recurring donations have a huge impact. Too often, small companies like ours are vulnerable to the programming impacts of major gifts being cut. So, this season, we’re launching an experiment to own the future of our company, together.

Brick-by-Brick is Working Theater’s new recurring donation program inviting our audience members to contribute modest amounts on a recurring basis (as little as $5 a month, or whatever amount fits your budget) to help build a more sustainable future for our work. In a time when arts funding is increasingly uncertain, we believe our strongest foundation is you. If all our fans contributed their MTA fare, just once a month, we could ensure the future of Working Theater’s core programming, regardless of the volatile arts funding environment.

Your support isn’t just a donation. It's an investment in a theater that works for everyone. We’re laying a new foundation one brick at a time, and we hope you will join us.

Bridge Awards 2026
Make a Donation towards our 2026 Bridge Awards and Benefit honoring Brendan Griffith (President of the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO), a tireless advocate for working people across New York City, and Gregory Mosher (Tony Award-winning producer, theater director and Executive Director of the Office of the Arts at Hunter College), whose visionary leadership helped define generations of American theater.

The 2026 Bridge Awards and Benefit supports Working Theater’s 41st season, which includes its second annual Stage Left new play festival focused on amplifying stories from the frontlines of workers’ movements and creating immediate action for audiences; support for the development of Control, a new play about air traffic controllers from Playwright-In-Residence, Kallan Dana; the annual commission of new plays by working-class playwrights through the Mark Plesent Commission Fund; and continued theater-education programming for communities of working people
