Raise the Curtain
The impact of LTO can be felt by many lifelong friends that have been formed by their involvement in productions at LTO. The arts helps to make for an incredible draw for people that want to live in our community because of the opportunities that are available to them. LTO has an annual financial impact on the community as well – we do our best to try and purchase as many of our items locally as we can.

The current rigging and lighting project, unfortunately, is not merely a “nice-to-have;” it is a “must have” for the theatre to continue its operations. The rigging and lighting are becoming a safety concern for the theatre volunteers as well as the patrons who attend productions at LTO’s Sharon Stark Auditorium at West Hills.

As the team from JR Clancy, Wenger, Mohs Contracting and Braun Engineering started to peel back the situation at Merrill Hall it became necessary to have some additional structural changes before we can do
the necessary upgrades to the rigging system. This has modified and added to the scope of this project.

The rigging and lighting system have not been upgraded for several decades and as such is a real safety concern. Initially the overall investment to upgrade these systems was going to be around $400,000.

The
Wenger Corporation has not only been guiding us through the process, but they have also generously presented us with a Matching Grant of $200,000 and together with you we met that goal in the first phase of this campaign.

However, since the initial evaluation both supply chain and inflation have made an impact. Bringing the new total for that part of the project to $469,650. Adding to this rigging amount is a Structural Upgrade needed
to make the rigging project possible. The total for the Structural Upgrade is $128,956.

All in, this project will now require an investment of around $598,606.

We have worked with Wenger Corporation, Mohs Contracting and others to have everything in line for late summer 2023 construction. Our challenge right now is we need to raise the additional $198,606 in the next
few months to make this happen. We are working hard on various grant opportunities as well as corporate support, but you the patrons and supporters of LTO are key to helping us reach this revised goal.

With your help, LTO will be able to upgrade and make these systems safe once again. Any amount will help. We thank you for your support of live theatre in our community!

LTO has two amazing scholarships we offer every year.  If you would like to help us continue to further the education of Steele County graduates please donate  today!

Veta Alexander Scholarship is offered to graduating high school students within Steele County who have been accepted at an accredited two or four-year college for a full-time course of study and have an interest in the performing arts.

Sarah Foreman Memorial Scholarship is meant to recognize and support the post-secondary education of a local person whose studies and/or participation are in theatre. Recipients will be chosen based on theatre involvement (past, present, future) including at LTO.
