Support The Venice Institute for Performing Arts at the VPAC
As the non-profit manager of the VPAC, we are charged with managing the facility for the Sarasota County School Board. This includes scheduling for all uses of the VPAC and box office operations.
In addition to these duties, our mission includes the provision of educational opportunities for students through the internship and apprenticeship programs at VHS. Our goal is to leverage the learning platform provided by the performing arts to help students develop 21st-century skills that are transferable to many different higher education paths and careers.
Our apprentices are paid for their service on productions and work alongside industry professionals in order to develop career-ready skills. Our interns work with and learn from VIPA professionals and gain school education credits.
Support the VIPA Venice High School Apprentice Program
The Apprenticeship Program is an on-the-job training program for Venice High School juniors and seniors who work on the professional performances that come through the VPAC. Students are given the opportunity to work hands-on with industry professionals in all areas of the performing arts from lighting and sound, to house management, and patron relations’ while also learning valuable life skills about responsibility, time management, collaboration, and teamwork. These skills are not only applicable in the performing arts but in any field, the students choose to follow upon graduation. These skills cover the 4Cs that have been laid out as the 21st Century themes that students need to learn to be successful in the workplace- Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity (http://www.battelleforkids.org/networks/p21/frameworks-resources).
Apprentices are required to submit an application and interview for a position in the apprenticeship program. Once chosen, apprentices must commit to training and working at professional performances throughout the season.
Students who have graduated from the apprenticeship program have gone on to work for the stagehands union, ITASE, and work as managers for local bands. Students have studied both performing arts and non-performing arts-related degrees at colleges and universities.
Your contribution to the Venice Institute for Performing Arts Apprenticeship Fund will help to pay for the cost of running this apprenticeship program.
Support the Venice High School Drama Boosters
Your donation will give our drama students the opportunity to produce a show from start to finish, building character, emotional intelligence, and confidence through the discipline of teamwork. Throughout the production of a show, students learn public speaking, presenting, teaching and communication. They learn problem solving and how to adapt to change. They gain the feeling of being part of something greater than themselves, of being part of a community. These are lessons they'll use in any future endeavor they pursue, on or off the stage.
Support the Venice Chorale Youth Programs
The Venice Chorale sponsors the Youth Chorus for singers in grades 4 through 8. Students learn the art of singing in a choral ensemble through quality choral literature. Members rehearse each week and prepare for performances in each of the three seasonal concerts. This is the 6th year of this very successful program.
The Venice Chorale’s Apprentice Program offers educational scholarships to gifted high school singers seeking careers in music. Many continue to sing with us for years.
Venice Concert Band Scholarship Fund
Our scholarship fund provides band instruments for local school bands and music scholarships for local school musicians. The photo is of students with new marimba and xylophone provided by this scholarship fund.
