The Abel López Leadership Fund
Help Honor Unsung Latinx Leaders by Supporting The Abel López Award for Excellence in Arts Leadership
This Award was established by GALA Theatre in response to the need of recognizing unsung Latinx leaders and tell their stories. The purpose of the award is to encourage leadership in the arts as distinguished by those qualities exhibited by Abel López over his career and service to the arts. The award will be presented to a Latinx individual or organization that has made or is making a significant impact in the Latinx arts community, whether they are just beginning their career or are well established. Each awardee will receive an honorarium averaging $2,000.
2025 Spring Campaign
Queridos amigos,
Thank you for standing with us during a challenging year—and special thanks to those who joined us at Noche de Estrellas. Your support keeps our artistic and youth programs alive and thriving.
In a time of fear, raids, and deep uncertainty, GALA remains true to its mission: building bridges of understanding and celebrating Latino culture through the performing arts. Founded 50 years ago by Hugo and Rebecca Medrano, GALA continues to uplift voices and foster belonging for those too often pushed to the margins.
Despite national recognition, we’ve been hit hard by cuts to arts funding. But with your help, we’ve continued to serve our community through transformative programs. Now, as we close our 49th season on June 30 and prepare to launch our Golden Season: 50 Years of Arts and Service, we have one final challenge:
Help us unlock a $10,000 matching grant from the Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation.
If you haven’t donated yet—or would like to build on your previous gift—now is the time. Every dollar brings us closer to unlocking vital support for the year ahead.
Your donation strengthens:
• $100–$500: Discounted student tickets for matinees
• $501–$1,000: Expansion of our small but mighty staff
• $1,001–$2,000: Commissioning new work by Latinx writers
To make a tax-deductible gift:
Mail a check (dated by June 30, 2025) to:
GALA Hispanic Theatre
2437 15th Street NW
Washington, DC 20009
Thank you for believing in GALA. We can’t wait to welcome you back to the theatre soon.
Muchas gracias por su apoyo.
