Cultivating the Next Generation of Artists and Audiences

Jazz is recognized around the world for its rich cultural heritage rooted in the African-American experience and is widely considered to be the first original American form of art. Yet, most Americans graduate from high school with little knowledge of the history or importance of jazz.

The Nash is the only dedicated jazz education and performance venue in the fifth largest city in America. As a jazz learning community for all agaes, The Nash offers a pathway for new musicians to embrace the tradition of improvisation, creating a pipeline for emerging talents to develop into the next generation of jazz musicians.

The Herb and Lorene Ely Scholarship Fund
The Nash is honored to announce the establishment of the Herb and Lorene Ely Scholarship Fund, created in memory of Nash co-founder Herb Ely, who passed away in April 2026.

Herb's unwavering dedication was instrumental in building The Nash into the thriving institution it is today. His vision for what The Nash could be as a home for world-class jazz performance and meaningful jazz education will continue to guide our programs for years to come, inspiring the next generation of artists and audiences alike.

The Ely Scholarship Fund was established with a generous annual lead gift from The Gopi Family. The fund will provide full and partial scholarships to students enrolled in The Nash Jazz Summer Camp, and support tuition subsidies for students in The Nash's school-year jazz ensemble programs. The Nash offers sliding-scale tuition for students 18 and under, ensuring that financial circumstances are never a barrier to participation. Students pay only an amount their family can afford, from zero to full tuition.
