About the Film

Popular Lebanese filmmaker Assad Fouladkar returns to the big screen with HALAL LOVE (AND SEX), a delightful ensemble comedy examining the often precarious line between romantic desire and religious devotion. Set in contemporary Beirut, the film follows three very different couples as they navigate the trials and tribulations of love, marriage, jealousy, and faith. With a deft hand, Fouladkar seamlessly interweaves their amusing stories, and imbues the collection with both humor and pathos. Featuring a cast of wonderfully colorful characters, HALAL LOVE (AND SEX) is an endearing satire full of heart and spirit.

The $24 million capital renovation of La MaMa's landmark building at 74A East 4th Street has preserved its historic façade and transformed its interior with ADA accessible spaces, flexible performance venues, and a data-wide building network to facilitate cross-cultural engagement across distance. La MaMa Umbria International provides artists from around the world with residency programs and intensive workshops. For 25 years, La MaMa Umbria has fostered cross-cultural and international exchanges and creative collaborations. The Trojan Women Project sends artists from La MaMa to work with artists in communities worldwide who have a desire to use theatre as a means for addressing the issues and themes presented in The Trojan Women. The project uses the music and staging of La MaMa's groundbreaking 1974 production of The Trojan Women, composed by Elizabeth Swados, directed by Andrei Serban, performed by the Great Jones Rep and produced by Ellen Stewart.
