This unique program, titled Untempered, explores music by composers who play in the nooks and crannies of musical tuning systems. Integrating phenomenon such as beatings and pitch discrepancies inherent in instrument design, composers Larry Polansky, Peter Adriaansz, Ben Johnston, James Tenney, and Lou Harrison pose an outsider lineage in modern composition, opening our awareness of the acoustic realities and necessities of music.
