Be part of a weekly rehearsal (plus tech and performances). This is a production that allows everyone to be in the ensemble, and after four rehearsals, those interested are able to audition for a role. Casting will include double and sometimes triple casting. Elizabethan era garments or “Shakespeare Threads” are a mainstay in theater and film! Explores historical costume construction to create a historical doublet or bodice similar to those worn in Shakespeare inspired musicals & Juliet and Six. This 5-session Teen Tech series teaches each step in the costume construction process for a historical custom built garment. Participants (ages 12-17)will be guided through flat patterning using body blocks, historical fabrics, cutting and sewing techniques both machine and hand, and finishing details including grommets and steel boning. Design, construct, and take home your very own garment that the “Bard” himself would envy!

Prop, sound, light and scenic design collide in a once-in-a-life time experience! Be a co-creator of the 2025 large scale Halloween display at GMT with the theme of “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” This 2-day immersive process will involve the creation, assembling, and styling of the display that will take over the front of GMT this Halloween. Continuing GMT’s celebration of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday year, participants (ages 12-17) will work with designers and creative directors to create an expansive exterior display inspired by the book and film “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” Some components will include foam carving, painting, fabric work, lighting, skeleton and zombie styling, and sound design. Names of the co-creators will be listed for the community to applaud as they walk by this October.

Spend five Saturdays stepping into the spectacular stories written by the one and only, William Shakespeare. We are never too young to explore the exciting dramas and boisterous comedies that remain a universal language around the world. These five weeks are a FUN, PLAYFUL, ACCESSIBLE invitation for 3rd-7th graders and 8th-11th graders to adventure into royal castles, battlefields, enchanted forests, as witches, kings and queens, fairies, star crossed lovers, and dreamers. There is nothing tame (pun intended) about these five Saturdays. Learn sword fighting, spell casting, physical comedy, voice manipulation, famous lines and characters and everyone will be part of a culmination of a Shakespeare Shake Up of the best of the Bard.

Up your Sondheim game! Explore the intricacies and musical themes from signature works of acclaimed and beloved musical theatre composer Stephen Sondheim. Teens will examine the songs of Sondheim through the lens of storytelling, communicating through stillness, and building characters that go beyond the lyrical starting point. Participants will work through two individual selections*, and collaborate on a famous sondheim group number. Through solo and group vocal activities, teens will unpack musical story beats, emotional arcs and character point of view. This four-day intensive will culminate in a presentation, including a look into the process of musical theatre character building from some of the most iconic Broadway songs of the last 50 years.

Want to up your game when it comes to standing out in auditions that incorporate movement?
Kayla Janssen returns to Garry Marshall Theatre with the next installment of Movement For Screen. This fall, spend eight Thursdays with choreographer Kayla Janssen. Each 2-hour session will empower performers who have a range of dance training from minimal (or even no dance training) to years of technique, who want be in the mix for auditions that involve movement and dance elements, and how to handle on-set movement language.
Designed for actors, dancers, and those who want to find added comfortability both in auditions and while on set when on-screen casting/production requires movement.
This 8-session fall program for adults will teach performers some dance basics that work for in-person and on-camera auditions. And yes, we will also build and explore achievable choreography each session.
Each week will build upon the previous, and will include a warm-up, foundation drills, individual movement explorations, and adding onto choreography that will be executed in its full expression in the final video filming.
October 24, will be a filming session, on location at GMT.
Once edited, the actors will receive the final video for their casting pages and other social media pages.
An in person waiver is required and will be provided at Garry Marshall Theatre, and will be signed by each participant acknowledging that this will culminate in a filming to be shared by others within the class.
